Book Trailer Reveal and Giveaway: Debt Collector by Susanne Kaye Quinn

2 comments:

By Susan Kaye Quinn
Released: 2013

What's your life worth on the open market?
A debt collector can tell you precisely.

Lirium plays the part of the grim reaper well, with his dark trenchcoat, jackboots, and the black marks on his soul that every debt collector carries. He's just in it for his cut, the ten percent of the life energy he collects before he transfers it on to the high potentials, the people who will make the world a better place with their brains, their work, and their lives. That hit of life energy, a bottle of vodka, and a visit from one of Madam Anastazja's sex workers keep him alive, stable, and mostly sane... until he collects again. But when his recovery ritual is disrupted by a sex worker who isn't what she seems, he has to choose between doing an illegal hit for a girl whose story has more holes than his soul or facing the bottle alone--a dark pit he's not sure he'll be able to climb out of again.

The first three episodes of the Debt Collector serial are collectively the length of a short novel, or 152 pages. These are the first three of nine episodes in the first season of The Debt Collector serial. This dark and gritty future-noir is about a world where your life-worth is tabulated on the open market and going into debt risks a lot more than your credit rating. Episode 4, Broken, releases 4/17/13. For more about the Debt Collector serial, see DebtCollectorSeries.com --Goodreads

Author Info:

Susan Kaye Quinn grew up in California, where she wrote snippets of stories and passed them to her friends during class. Her teachers pretended not to notice and only confiscated her stories a couple times.

Susan left writing behind to pursue a bunch of engineering degrees, but she was drawn back to writing by an irresistible urge to share her stories with her niece, her kids, and all the wonderful friends she’s met along the way.

She doesn’t have to sneak her notes anymore, which is too bad.

Susan writes from the Chicago suburbs with her three boys, two cats, and one husband. Which, it turns out, is exactly as a much as she can handle.

Katana (Katana #1)
By Cole Gibsen
Published: March 8, 2012
Publisher: Flux
Paperback, 375 pages

Kill Bill meets Buffy in this supernatural samurai tale. Rileigh Martin would love to believe that adrenaline gave her the uncanny courage and strength to fend off three muggers. But it doesn't explain her dreams of fifteenth century Japan, the incredible fighting skills she suddenly possesses, or the strange voice giving her battle tips and danger warnings. While worrying that she's going crazy (always a reputation ruiner), Rileigh gets a visit from Kim, a handsome martial arts instructor, who tells Rileigh she's harboring the spirit of a five-hundred-year-old samurai warrior.

Relentlessly attacked by ninjas, Rileigh has no choice but to master the katana--a deadly Japanese sword that's also the key to her past. As the spirit grows stronger and her feelings for Kim intensify, Rileigh is torn between continuing as the girl she's always been and embracing the warrior inside her. --Goodreads

Praise

"This action-packed novel has a unique and compelling plot...Fans of Carrie Asai's Samurai Girl series will be particularly interested, but even readers who dislike supernatural story lines will enjoy this tale of modern samurais."
~School Library Journal~

"An action packed page-turner tempered with slow-burning romance."

Senshi (Katana #2)
By Cole Gibsen
Expected Publication: March 8, 2013
Publisher: Flux
Paperback, 384 pages

Is Rileigh’s only hope for salvation to team up with her sworn enemy?

Rileigh Martin just wants to do normal teenage things, like go on romantic dates with Kim, her boyfriend and past life soul mate. Although that seems impossible when she’s the reincarnation of Senshi, a fifteenth century samurai warrior. After a ninja ambush leaves her unable to control her ki powers, Rileigh vows to get them under control before her friends lose more than their eyebrows. But when Kim leaves her for his past life betrothed and the other samurai stop talking to her, Rileigh realizes she doesn’t have any friends left to worry about.

As the ninja attacks increase, Rileigh learns that the reincarnated kunoichi, a powerful female ninja, wants to kill her in order to reclaim her destructive powers. Alone and with increasingly unstable powers, Rileigh’s only offer of help comes from Whitley, her sworn past life enemy. Rileigh knows she doesn’t stand a chance against the kunoichi by herself, but Whitley’s sudden allegiance might be hiding a much deadlier agenda. --Goodreads

Now the Quorum are displeased, not only with Kayden, but with Farley and Daniel too. Though her father is now dead, Farley’s troubles with the Reavers are far from over. An ancient Immortal, trapped for a thousand years, wants Farley for himself, and he will stop at nothing to claim her.

Book Trailer: Dance of Shadows by Yelena Black

2 comments:

My Thoughts: I am really not sure on what to say about this. It looks all fancy, but doesn't really show anything about the plot besides ballerinas killing their feet. Ugh... book trailers are usually poorly and ridiculously made. However, this one is slightly better made, despite its pointlessness and different ballerinas that are switched every other shot. The music is love, so I guess I give kudos to the composer!

My Thoughts: I haven't really gotten into this series as much as many others have. Matched wasn't as amazing as I had hoped. Still I have to share this book trailer! It is gorgeous and so well-done! Maybe this will convince me to give this series another try.

The Demon Royale (Dream Slayer Seris #2)
By Jill Cooper
Release Date: October 10, 2012

The only thing worse than dying, is running away…

Since becoming employed by a supernatural protection agency, Natalie Johnson’s life has been
more interesting than ever. While most teens are working on their summer tans, Natalie works on
slaughtering the undead lurking just outside her town’s borders.

The workload takes more than just a toll on her love life, it dampens her spirit and her health, as the
town is plagued by a mysterious murderer intent on stealing the residents’ souls. Natalie’s investigation
is hampered by her declining health and the sicker she gets, the more inadequate she feels.

Guilt over her inability to act, weighs heavily on Natalie’s shoulders during a time when her strength is
needed more than ever. As some of those closest to her begin to lose faith, she must make the hardest
stand yet to save the soul of the one person she can always count on:

The Slayer.

Excerpt

His face twitched, his lip snarled, and his hands grabbed at her arms. “You!”
“Me?” Natalie said innocently as she made a fist and swung at his head. He caught her wrist
like he was some sort of expert, twisting her arm behind her back and slamming her chest into
the wall.
“To think we fear you. You can’t even throw a decent punch.”
“Hey,” Natalie huffed, storing extra air in her lungs as the man threw her down the hall.
Natalie tumbled and her head collided into the wooden molding against the wall hard enough
that her head crunched, and she saw a multitude of stars. The man was walking towards her,
flexing and cracking his neck from side to side.
She didn’t want to stick around long enough to find out what he was going to do with her.
Natalie bolted to the side through the kitchen and out into the night air. She ran, scampering like
a dog up the side of the cliffs, using old roots to pull herself up.
When she got to the top of the cliff, she saw her friends sitting, Marcus juggling stakes, and
Michelle combing her hair. For a moment, her eyes narrowed in anger that they weren’t more
prepared, but behind her came the sound of men charging.
“Run!” Natalie said. Her heart was charging, and she had trouble catching her breath, but
she couldn’t stop—couldn’t slow down. She ran to her friends, gave them a shove and shouted it
again. Kenneth fell behind, so Natalie grabbed his hand and charged him through the trees.
Natalie glanced over her shoulder and saw the glow of flashlights coming through the trees.
She was like ET on the run from the federal government, and it didn’t feel that far off. But who
would be after her? Who would know?
They couldn’t be, as WOMP was on her side—heck, she worked for the federal government!
They signed her weekly paychecks!
“Which way?” Michelle hissed as they came to a ravine. If they took a right, it would take
them farther up the mountain and into nature. Long paths and sharp cliffs would be in their
future. But if they turned left down the dirt path, it would lead them to the city, and the lights
from downtown were a beacon through the trees.

“Head to town before they catch us.”
Natalie took the lead, heading down the mountain. Her feet skidded along the dirt path, and
her foot lodged on an old tree root. She tumbled end over end until she landed on her butt right
beside the state highway. Following it for less than a mile would lead them to the core of the city
and a short jaunt to downtown.
Natalie was glad that Michelle helped her up with little to say about it, and they charged on
ahead. “We’re headed to Buckle’s Gifts, aren’t we?” Michelle asked.
The paladin nodded and looked back at the men standing on the side of the highway.
For some reason, they weren’t pursing her any longer. Instead, they were standing with grim
expressions on their faces, their sunglasses steady as they stared ahead at her, even in the dark.
They hadn’t broken a sweat and barely hit their stride.
“Why aren’t they coming?” Tristan asked.
“They’ve done enough.” Natalie couldn’t keep the dread out of her voice. “They’ve scared
me, and for tonight, I think that’s enough for them.”
